QJH Panthers’ Successful Season

By Seth McLemore, 970 Reads
Mon, 11/16/2020 - 6:16 PM

There is no denying the QHS Panthers football team’s football season has been less than successful, but just on the other side of town, the QJHS Football team has concluded their season with an all successful season. Winning every single game, except one due to a cancelation, Coach Phipps has something he should truly be proud of. Coach Phipps has been coaching for 14 years but has only served as Head Coach for three years at Quitman Junior High school. Of those three years, Coach Phipps has credited every junior high football season victorious.

Coach Phipps named Akylin Dear, Jaleil Ladarion, and Shundarius Dear from the offensive line, and Tacarlus Watts, Jaden Hamilton, Malik Davis, and Ludrick Cameron from the defensive line as key players of the season, helping the team average 27 points in the season.

Coach Phipps introduced Akylin Dear to the QHS Varsity Football team as a member of the team after recommendations that Akylin should be placed on the QHS Football team. Akylin participated in the Panthers’ homecoming game and will participate in the final game of the varsity season where the Panthers will travel to face off against the Mendenhall Tigers this Friday night. Akylin Dear, becoming an honorary member of the Panthers’ Varsity team, was given the role as #28 on the varsity team.

Coach Phipps said that his most memorable game was when the junior high team faced off against the Laurel team, and the team kept a level head and stayed focused and worked hard throughout the entire game.

When asked what his hopes are for the next season, Coach Phipps responded, “We need to work hard and keep at our best, but overall, we need more people coming out to support the team.”
