Body found Sunday appears to be homicide

The body of a deceased black male was discovered by a passerby Sunday morning, September 6, on the side of Hwy. 18 West east of Pachuta.

According to Sheriff Todd Kemp, a black male, approx. 50-70 years old, was discovered just before 7 a.m. Sunday. Kemp says the body appears to have multiple gunshot wounds and is unidentifiable.

The subject is around 5’9”, weighing approximately 240-260 pounds, was clean shaven with a goatee, and a gray t-shirt. The subject had a cross on a silver colored chain around his neck (see photo).

Kemp feels the person is not from Clarke County. So far, no one has come forward with information of any missing persons in the nearby four county area. An autopsy will be performed on the body, along with searching finger print and dental records.

“This was one of the worst that I’ve seen of a person that age since I’ve been doing this,” stated Kemp. “We are asking the public’s help in identifying this person. We can’t start an investigation until we find out who this person is.”

The Clarke County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Forensics Crime Scene Unit are investigating.
