The Clarke County Tribune Names New Publisher

The Clarke County Tribune has announced the hiring of its new publisher.

Clarke County native Elisa Mayo will take the lead role at the newspaper next week.

Mayo lives in the Carmichael community with her husband, Matt, and their two children, Alea and Trent.  She comes to the Tribune after eighteen years managing the finance department of Quitman School District.  Active in the community, Mayo feels the position is a natural fit, “I am a long-time champion of our community and especially its youngest citizens.  I feel blessed to call Clarke County home and hope my children will one day have the opportunity to do the same.”

Mayo is a charter member of the local Lions Club, Clarke County Excel By 5, and serves as president of the QSD Imagination Library.  She is an advocate for literacy and holds degrees from Hinds Community College, Mississippi State University, and Belhaven University.

Mayo’s husband is co – owner of Mayo Services. The Mayo family is active members of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

“The Clarke County Tribune is fortunate to have Elisa Mayo join the staff,” Baxley said. “She has a vested interest in Clarke County and has always been community minded. She will be a great ambassador for the County and will do an excellent job. I look forward to seeing her continue to grow the newspaper.”

Baxley has been with the Tribune for 28 years, with the last eight years serving as publisher. She decided to leave in early August to pursue other interests.
