The Clarke County Board of Supervisors presented Jerry Mason with a Proclamation paying tribute to the Veterans of Clarke County. Veteran’s Day is November 11, 2020. BY THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CLARKE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, GRATEFULLY ACKNOWLEDGING AND COMMENDING THE BRAVERY, HEROISM AND DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE OF OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM, THIS VETERANS DAY, NOVEMBER 11, A.D. 2020
WHEREAS, on this Veterans Day, we come together to pay tribute to the men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces, as America has long stood as a beacon of hope and opportunity, the righteous spirit of which is embodied in the zeal and selfless service of the members of our Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, Americans throughout the nation commemorate the sacrifices of those countless patriots who have risked their lives throughout the years to preserve the liberty of our Nation, the families who support them, and those heroes no longer with us; and
WHEREAS, the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen, whose unparalleled spirit, skill, and devotion to duty comprise the fortified links of an unbroken chain of brave troops, who have served our country with honor, dignity and integrity, and who have made tremendous personal sacrifices to preserve for us all the privilege to live freely, are certainly most worthy to be honored in the solemn ceremonies of this day; and
WHEREAS, so many of our valiant veterans, after leaving the uniform behind, continue to serve our country as public servants and mentors, parents and community leaders, yet many also face a continuing sacrifice through their struggle with pain, physical and mental illness, as well as sadly, for too many, the scourge of suicide, which such sacrifices must never be forgotten; and
WHEREAS, America's sons and daughters have not watched over her shores or her citizens for public recognition, fanfare or parades; instead they have preserved our way of life with unwavering patriotism and quiet courage, and ours is a high debt of honor, as a grateful nation, to care for them by upholding our obligations and never forgetting those who paid the ultimate price for our Liberty; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the monumental service of our military veterans who answered the call to patriot arms and through their selflessness have afforded and preserved for us the democratic liberties we enjoy, and together are the preeminent reason we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th annually:
NOW, THEREFORE, in observance of this Veterans Day 2020, and on behalf of all the grateful citizens of Clarke County, Mississippi, we do hereby acknowledge and commend the bravery, heroism and selfless military service of our Nation's veterans, and for those veterans who are still with us, we extend our support, deep appreciation and heartfelt best wishes for continued prosperity in every facet of their lives.
So proclaimed, this the 11th day of November, A.D. 2020.
Supervisors Darrick Marshall, Paul Mosley, Lorenzo Carter, Mickey Long and Joel Speed.
