Stop the Violence Rally Sept. 8
The third annual Stop the Violence Rally will be held in Quitman Saturday, September 8th beginning at 10 a.m. with a Stop the Violence Walk from the county courthouse to Sumrall Park, where there will be guest speakers. This event is in memory of Bruce O’Bryan Dear who died September 11, 2016, in Quitman at a residence on Highway 511 due to violence.
The event was spearheaded by Dear’s mother, Tracey Dear, who is hoping the annual event will pull people together.
“My son was killed when people tried to rob him and he was trying to get them away from his family,” she said. “I am hoping this rally will help pull people together,” the mother said. “I am tired of the violence. People work hard for what they have and others want to come and try to take it. There are evil people trying to destroy others.”
Tracey along with family and citizens in the county and surrounding counties have joined together to fight against violence and are asking the community to join them.
“I want positive things to come from this. I want people to come together as one and pull together,” Tracey said.
Organizers also welcome individuals who would like to speak, as well as Praise Teams.
