Arlis Fredrick Herod

His Lord and Savior called Arlis Fredrick Herod, 83, of Enterprise, MS home on September 10, 2018.  He was born on December 25, 1934 to John Doris Herod and Vernice Grantham Herod in Attala County, MS.  He shared his childhood with sisters Nell Herod Jackson, Dorelle Herod Bishop and brother, Arnold Herod.  One of his greatest joys in life was to make people smile and laugh and earned the nickname "Bozo" in his youth. 

Arlis served his county in the U. S. Army Security Agency from 1957 to 1960.  He married Eva Dickerson Herod in 1960 and they celebrated 58 years of marriage together.  They share two sons, Michael Thweatt and Marvin Thweatt and three daughters, Arlene (Steve) Jackson, Arlisa (Chip) Caudle, and April (Pete) Floyd.  They share grandsons, Jamie Thweatt, Charles Caudle, Daniel Caudle, Tyler Fleming, Dylan Fleming, and Will Floyd; granddaughters, Judy Thweatt Simon, Emiley Jackson Timms and Rayleigh Floyd; great-grandson, Gage Litchfield.

Arlis enjoyed Bluegrass music and was part of the Magnolia State Bluegrass Association and helped promote and support Bluegrass music across most of the South.  After retirement, Arlis and Eva continued their enjoyment of Bluegrass music and also traveled extensively as they visited 49 states, the West Indies and Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Nell Jackson, brother, Arnold Herod and grandson, Jamie Thweatt.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2018, after 5:00 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018, 3:00 pm at the Wright's Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Kenneth Owen and Rev. Paul Trosper officiating.

Burial will take place in the Enterprise Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chip Caudle, Steve Jackson, Pete Floyd, Charles Caudle, Daniel Caudle and Tyler Fleming.  Honorary Pallbearer will be Dylan Fleming who is currently serving the Air Force in Texas.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of StaHome Health and Hospice and especially to Home Instead for their compassionate care and support shown to Arlis and his family during his extensive illness.
