John Robert "Bud" Day

John Robert "Bud" Day, 93, of Collins, MS, left this earth to be with his Heavenly Father on January 19, 2019, at the Veteran's Administration Nursing Home in Collins, MS. 

He was born on December 26, 1925, to Oscar and Nora (Farrar) Day in Crandall, MS.

Robert was a Clarke County, MS native. He attended Center Ridge Baptist Church where, at the age of 15, he publically professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior.  He was baptized in Bucatunna Creek.  He attended Carmichael Elementary and High School.  He attended East Mississippi Junior College at Scooba MS and then Mississippi Southern at Hattiesburg.  Robert was in the US Army and served in World War II.

After college he went to work at Brookley Field in Mobile and in 1963 he moved to Houston, TX and worked for NASA. On June 30, 1973, he married the love of his life, Ava June Cox.  They returned to Texas to live until he retired in 1980.  Then they returned to Carmichael, MS to make their home.

His greatest love and talent was singing while his wife, Avie June, played piano.  They formed several singing groups.  They served the community and surrounding areas providing music for funerals, churches, revivals and homecoming services. Robert served as song director at Center Ridge Baptist Church and Pine Grove Baptist Church.  He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. 

Another highlight of his life were his granddaughters, Terra and Taryn Pitts.  He was their "Papaw"!

Robert is survived by his daughters, Edith (Albert) Elmore and Jane (Terry) Pitts; grandchildren, Terra Pitts and Taryn Pitts; niece, Carolyn (Carlos) Tarver; nephew, Rex (Anne) Buffington, brother-in-law, Edwin Mosley, a host of special great nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Avie June Day; parents, Oscar and Nora Day; sisters, Catherine Buffington and Marge Conner; brother, Cronfeld Day; sister-in-law, Eloyce Harvey Mosley; grandsons, Bryant Davis and Billy Davis and a host of other special nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2019, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Center Ridge Baptist Church, Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Center Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Dewayne Crane officiating. Burial will take place in the Center Ridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matt Mayo, David Mayo, Ray Mayo, Larry Fleming, Stevie Conner, and Johnny Farrar.
