LaVerne S. Kemp
LaVerne S. Kemp, 88, of Quitman, MS, passed away on November 30, 2018, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 12, 1930, to Vern and Naomi (Boykin) Spickard in DeSoto, MS.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Lynn Robinson and son-in-law Brent Robinson; four grandchildren, Brent Robinson, II (Christy), Amy Burke (Wade), Amanda Pickell (Brandon), and Sarah Allen (Ryan); seven great grandchildren, Taylor Reece Robinson, Dallas Cruz Robinson, Lucas Cade Bruntlett, Jax Colton McClain, Logan Wade Pickell, Lauren Nicole Pickell, and Austin Keith Allen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Glen Kemp; daughter, Georgia Ann Fleming; parents, Vern and Naomi Spickard; and sister Gwendolyn "Cricket" Hubbert.
Laverne started working for Mr. J.A. Terral as a senior in high school. Then she worked for Mr. Dutch Dabbs at the Chevrolet Place in Quitman until her first child was born. She also worked at Quitman Motor Company for Mr. Bud Patton, International Paper Company, Clarke County Co-op and retired after 20 years from Great Southern National Bank. She was a member of Quitman First United Methodist Church since 1952. She loved her church and her church family and was a very active member. Her hobbies were cooking, raising beautiful flowers and she and her husband, Glen, started the Daisy Chain Square Dancing Club in Quitman. She always had one of her special pound cakes for someone in need. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation was held Sunday, December 2, 2018, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 2, 3:00 p.m. at the Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Kennedy and Rev. Pam Randall officiating. Burial took place in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brent Robinson, Brent Robinson II, Logan Pickell, George Sellers, Jr., Luke Bruntlett and Wade Burke. Honorary pallbearer was Jax Colton McClain.
