Coach Neil Lyon was honored as the Mac Barnes Coach of the Year

The 2nd Annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Jackie Slay Breakfast of Champions was held Friday, April 19, 2019, in Meridian, MS. The keynote speaker for this year's event was Demario Davis, linebacker for the New Orleans Saints.

Recognized in the Champions of Character were: Sarah Brannan, Sydney Goodman and Calen Richardson of Enterprise High School, and Tyler Glass and Kirste Graves of Quitman High School.

The Enterprise Middle School Cheerleaders and Enterprise High School Cheerleaders were recognized as a part of the State Championship Winners.

Coach Neil Lyon was honored as the Mac Barnes Coach of the Year. Coach Lyon serves as a quarterback/running back coach for Quitman High School for the last 12 years. When his name was called for the FCA Coach of the Year, he said it was an amazing blessing.

“It (coaching) is an absolute calling,” said Coach Lyon. “As a kid growing up, I never wanted to be anything else. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. There are more lucrative jobs out there, but there’s not a dollar in the world worth hating getting up and going to work every morning. I’ve gotten to do something every day that I love to do.”

Neil has been married to Kathy for 38 years, and they have two sons. He says he’s blessed to be a family man. Both sons have played ball for him and that has been a blessing as well.

Coach Lyon has worked at Richton High School, East Central High School, West Jones, which is his home, Head Coach and Athletic Director at North Ponotoc, and worked on Larry Weems’ staff at Pearl before coming to Quitman.

Congratulations to Coach Neil Lyon!
