Jones College in Stonewall is starting up a new class in October that will focus on using heavy equipment.
Specifically, students will learn the basics and safety procedures on how to operate an excavator and a bulldozer.
“We’re excited about the class. We have some new equipment coming in that we’ll be using and hope that this is a class we can continually offer from now on,” stated Director Reggie Richardson.
The class is a 16 week course. The classes will take place on Monday and Tuesday nights from 5:30 until 9:30 and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Students who complete the course will receive a certificate.
The instructor for the course, Matthew White, is excited about the class and can see how it will be a huge asset to the county.
“They will learn how to operate an excavator and a bull dozer. We’re going to teach them basic operations and teach them how to excavate utilities among other things,” explained White. “Once they complete the class, they will possibly be able to get a job as an operator, or they will at least have the knowledge to move themselves forward in their job as an operator.”
At this time, there are still a few openings left for anyone who is interested in taking the course. For more information on the course or questions on how to register, call Jones College at 601-477-4835.
