By BUBBY JOHSTON,

Pam Green Hampton of Quitman is among the newest members of the Scott County Sports Hall of Fame. Hampton, a former basketball standout at Sebastopol High School, East Central Community College in Decatur and Mississippi State University, joins 11 other inductees who were enshrined during the annual ceremony held Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Livingston Performing Arts Center at Roosevelt State Park in Morton. Pictured with the Scott County native are (from left) parents, Barney and Mott Green of Sebastopol; daughter, Hannah Hampton; and husband Steve Hampton. Pam was an All-State, All-District and All-Conference selection at Sebastopol, where she helped lead the Lady Bobcats to several tournament titles and a historic second-place finish in the state tournament en route to a 23-7 mark her senior campaign in 1986-87 under head coach Truman Moore. She averaged 10 points, nine assists and six rebounds during her senior season. At ECCC, Hampton helped lead the Sammy Pace-coached Lady Warriors to winning campaigns her freshman and sophomore seasons. During her sophomore season in 1988-89, Hampton excelled on offense especially from three-point range, as she made 62 percent of all long-range attempts and earned the nickname “Three-Point Pam.” She drained a career high nine three-point shots during a division battle at Southwest Mississippi College in Summit. She averaged 18 points and 11 assists in leading ECCC to an 18-8 record. The Lady Warriors won the MACJC South Division Tournament and finished third in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. She continued her athletic career as a walk-on at MSU but quickly earned a scholarship from head coach Jerry Henderson. One of the highlights during her career as Lady Bulldog was when she set a school record by scoring 12 points during a span of 90 seconds. Hampton received a bachelor’s degree in coaching and teaching at MSU. She currently serves as a physical education instructor at Quitman School District, where she has received teaching honors and serves on the teacher advisory committee.
