KILN, Miss. (AP) — Two people were killed Saturday night after multiple homes caught fire in the south Mississippi community of Kiln.
Hancock County Coroner Jeff Hair said he was not yet ready to release the identities, The Sun Herald reported.
The houses affected were in the Jourdan River Shores neighborhood near Mississippi 603, according to Hancock County residents who posted photos of the blaze to social media.
The waterfront area is home to full-time Mississippi Coast residents, but many houses in the community are used as vacation homes or second homes.
The fires caused traffic delays in Kiln, the newspaper reported.
All lanes of traffic were blocked on the highway from Texas Flat Road to Pontiac Drive for much of the night, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said on Facebook early Sunday that one lane had reopened.
