I read a story not too long ago in Rick Ezell’s book, Cutting to the Core. It was about a commuter flight from Portland, Maine, to Boston in the summer of 1987. Henry Dempsey, the pilot, “heard an unusual noise in the rear of the aircraft. He turned the controls over to the co-pilot and went back to check it out. As he reached the tail section, the plane hit an air pocket, and Dempsey was tossed against the rear door. That’s when he discovered the source of the mysterious noise. The rear door had not been properly latched before takeoff and it fell open.

This was the Enon bridge this time last year following a winter storm. Bridges freeze sooner than roads and stay hazardous longer. Be safe!
Take no chances.
That’s the word going out to residents of Washington Parish as near-record low temperatures are predicted for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
Making the bitterly low temperatures worse, it is also possible that rain predicted for Sunday will freeze and make some roads and bridges hazardous. Even a very light glaze of ice can make sidewalks, outdoor steps, roads, and bridges slippery.
As of this posting, the weather predictions are not 100% definite. An approaching winter storm could veer more to the north or, worse, more southward into Washington Parish.

Below is an opinion column by Russ Latino:
Public-to-public transfers, sometimes called open enrollment or portability, are not robustly used. The policy is not a panacea. It can be a lifeline for hardship, though.
Forty-six (46) states, plus the District of Columbia, allow a student to transfer from the public school they are assigned to into another public school. Mississippi is among them.
