Almon "Sonny" Hayes Jr., 86, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on November 28, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on May 19, 1939, to Alman and Mary (Tims) Hayes in Quitman, MS.
Sonny was a lifelong member and elder of East Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Iwana Williamson Hayes; two daughters, Sherry Hayes and Kelly Hayes McQueen; step-son, Glenn Howard; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Edwards, Justin Gary (Amee) Howard, Josh Hayes, Samuel Paul (Morgan) McQueen, Garrick (Erika) Howard, Mason Howard, and Preston Howard; nine great-grandchildren, Blaze (Jessica) Howard, Storm Howard, Skyye Howard, Atlee Howard, Jackson Howard, Kennedy McQueen, Avery McQueen, Evan West, and Donovan Dixon; two great-great-grandchildren, Jasper Howard and Brooklyn Howard; sister, Carolyn (Horace) Kennedy; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alman Alexander Hayes; mother, Mary Velma Hayes; son, Michael Almon Hayes; stepson, Gary Howard; three sisters, Earline Foster, Christine H. Fairley McRee, and Ruby Ingram; and a brother, Robert Earl Hayes.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2025, 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at East Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, 12:00 p.m. at East Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Gullick officiating.
Burial will take place in the East Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Mark Kennedy, Mitch Kennedy, Matt Kennedy, Will Kennedy, Brian Long, and Jamie Griffin. Honorary Pallbearers are Bob Dickerson, John Edward Cooper, Scottie Johnson, Mason Howard, Tony Williamson, and David McInnis.
