Come out and support them
The American Legion Legacy Run will take place Aug. 21-25, 2022; those wanting to participate can register at www.legion.org/riders/registration.
The 1,200-mile ride will leave from the USS Alabama Memorial Park in Mobile, Ala., on Sunday, August 21, stopping in Waynesboro, MS, for fuel at Walmart, then traveling through Clarke County on Hwy. 45 North at approximately 10:30 a.m. for those wanting to watch and support the riders. They will travel through Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois before winding up at American Legion Post 434 in Oak Creek, Wis. – a 20-minute drive from Milwaukee, the site of the 2022 American Legion National Convention.
Medal of Honor recipient Gary Wetzel, a Legion Rider from Post 434, will await the ride on its final stop and be a part of its closing ceremonies. Later that evening, Legacy Run participants will be able to take part in a bike night outside of the nearby Harley-Davidson Museum campus upon the conclusion of activities at post 434.
This is a yearly event prior to the American Legion National Convention to raise money for post 9/11 children of fallen soldiers and 50% or greater disabled American Veterans who fought in the Gulf War and War on Terror and lost their lives or were disabled.
Jake W. Lindsey American Legion Post 70 Waynesboro is asking local residences of the community to come out to Hwy 145 North to the local Walmart with flags of support for this occasion and Legion Rider Veterans from 9:30 a.m. until they leave heading to Meridian, MS, through Clarke County after fueling up.
If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, contact Sammy Barnett at the Veteran Services Office or call 601-735-7600. There may be between 200 and 400 veteran motorcycle riders come though Wayne and Clarke County on that day.
