BankPlus recently donated to Enterprise High School to support the development of the school’s first robotics club. The robotics club is intended to strengthen students’ STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) skills and educate them on career possibilities focusing on STEM. The newly created club integrates technology, engineering, and math into its activities, and is a great way to give students a head start in pursuing careers in computer science and engineering at the post-secondary level. Enterprise High School offers two advanced placement computer science classes to build a stronger technology workforce in Clarke County.
“We are proud to support the startup of the first robotics club. At BankPlus, we recognize the jobs of tomorrow require a stronger aptitude of STEM skills. We want to inspire these students to be innovative and to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, so we’re proud to support Enterprise High School in this endeavor,” said Tim Davis BankPlus City President-Quitman. “We hope they’ll join the BankPlus team one day and teach us a thing or two as they build their careers here!”
According to Jacqueline Lewis, robotics club faculty sponsor, the club is fun for students as they learn programming techniques in a hands-on environment. Currently, 22 students are participating in the program which meets after school during the week. “We did not plan to compete during this first year. We were just going to learn about microprocessors and a bit about hardware, but our students are very bright and quickly grew beyond the scope of that objective,” said Lewis. “We have learned that there are considerably more expenses if we are to build the robot and compete. We very much appreciate BankPlus, as well as our other sponsors, for their generous support of our program! Without that financial support, we could not have a program at all.”
