For the first time in about 15 years, the Blue Angels are performing a show at the Naval Air Station in Meridian.
“It is with great excitement that we announce that the elite Blue Angels will be back in Meridian to celebrate their 85th anniversary, as well as the Navy base’s 65th anniversary of training excellence here in Meridian, Mississippi,” expressed Luke Davis, Commanding Officer for the Naval Air Station in Meridian. “Thank you all for your support. Come out on March 28 and March 29. It’s going to be a great show.”
The event is free to attend, and everyone can bring their families and some lawn chairs and enjoy the performances.
In addition to the Blue Angels performing, there will be performances by the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team to open the show both days, the U.S. Air Force F-22 Demo Team, the U.S. Marine Corp. F-35B, a Sky Hawk, a Corsair, a Wild Cat, a Fresco, an Avenger, a Helldiver, and a Mitchell “Devil Dog.” There will also be civilian performances by Big Papa Aviation and Nextgen Eagles.
Along with the performances, there will be 19 planes on display for people to get close to and speak with the pilots. There will be a kid’s fun zone where recruiters from the Marine Corps, Navy, and Army will bring interactive simulators for everyone to enjoy.
Concessions will have a large variety of food and beverages for everyone to enjoy. That Saturday, there will also be a classic car show for attendees to enjoy.
They will open the gates for the show at 9:00 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Everyone is asked to enter through the commercial gate on Highway 45. The public will park on the actual runway at the end of one of the gates. Everyone entering will be required to walk through a metal detector and will be required to have a state issued I.D.
