Jones College placed five players in double figures and cruised to a 100-49 victory over the Piney Woods Post Grad Tornados here Tuesday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Reigning MACCC Player of the Week Dimp Pernell (Horn Lake) led the way with 18 points and his twin brother Ky Pernell (Horn Lake) added 17. Coming off the bench, Samarion Grant (Jackson Provine) had 14 points, Trey Smith (Terry) had 13 and Malik Franklin (Vicksburg) added 11.
Smith ended up with a ‘double double’ pulling down 10 rebounds. Point guard LJ Hackman (Columbus) led the Bobcats with five assists.
The Bobcats shot 51 percent from the floor (37-of-72), 55 percent from 3-point range (15-of-27) and 55 percent from the free throw line (11-of-20).
Jones outrebounded Piney Woods, 50-33, and had 25 assists compared to 10 for the Tornados.
The Bobcats scored the game’s first seven points, but Piney Woods responded with eight straight to take an 8-7 lead with 15:20 left in the first half.
Jones went on a 22-5 run and took a 29-13 lead with 8:28 showing when Dimp Pernell made a 3-pointer. The Bobcats would lead 51-29 at halftime.
It was more of the same in the second half. Ky Pernell’s two free throws with 10:16 left gave the Bobcats a 79-33 lead. Jones’ longest lead came with 2:13 remaining when Dekaveon Taylor (Shreveport, Louisiana) made a dunk.
Cardez Norman led Piney Woods with 12 points and Jared Days added 11.
Jones travels to Mississippi Gulf Coast for an 8 p.m. game on Thursday and will visit Mississippi Delta on Nov. 13.
