The Buckatunna Creek relief bridge, located just east of Buckatunna Creek on County Road 670, officially closed on April 1 for replacement.
All traffic in that area will need to detour by using County Road 430 to Highway 18 East.
“They will be completely tearing out the old bridge and replacing it with a new bridge,” explained Supervisor Scott Evans. “There are pilings underneath it that are too worn to fix, and there is too much corrosion to fix on the bride superstructure.”
It is estimated to take approximately eight months to a year to replace the structure, but the time will depend on different factors.
“How long it takes will depend on the weather and whether they hit bedrock while driving new pilings,” added Evans. “If they hit bedrock and have to drill the bedrock to place the pilings, we have to allow them more time to get that done. This happened on the County Road 511 bridge, and it added 50 days to the construction time.”
