Central United Methodist Church invites the community to a celebration of Fat (Shrove) Tuesday, February 17, with a traditional Mardi Gras Meal of Shrimp and Crab Gumbo, rice, French bread, and very special Bread Pudding. Tickets are $12 and may be purchased from church members, at the church office, or at the door. All proceeds will go to support missions. “We welcome you for lunch from 11:00-1:30 or for dinner from 5:00-7:00,” said chairman Randy Howse, “You may join us in the Mardi Gras-decorated fellowship hall or pick up in the carry-out area on the 11th Avenue side of the church.” Central UMC is located at 1004 23rd Avenue.
Those dining in are asked to use the 22nd Avenue entrance to the fellowship hall. Delivery is available for orders of six or more meals.
Shrove or Fat Tuesday has been celebrated for generations as the final day of Mardi Gras and is followed by Ash Wednesday, beginning the 40 days of Lent prior to Easter Sunday. “Sharing a meal with the community and supporting mission projects at the same time seems like a perfect way to begin the Lenten Period,” said Pastor Scott Wright. “Central has a long tradition of mission projects for area schools, a backpack ministry, support for local nonprofits as well as UMC missions, especially Disaster Relief projects. The church also sponsors numerous events for special needs children and adults, including the 2nd Annual ‘Night to Shine’ on February 13.”
