Jones College in Stonewall has become a huge asset to the county, providing a variety of classes to the community at reasonable rates.
In the upcoming months, they will be adding two more amazing workforce programs to what they offer: Phlebotomy and Medical Assistant.
This summer, they will add phlebotomy as a workforce program that people are able to take part in. The course itself is an intensive 75 hour course that will allow students to have immediate employment as a phlebotomist in the hospital or clinical setting. The main purpose for the position is to assist the medical team collect accurate, safe, and reliable specimens for clinical laboratory testing. The classes will meet on campus with variable clinical experiences at local hospitals and clinics. The students will complete clinical training and orientation in an accredited laboratory and have 25 successful unaided blood collections, including both venipuncture and skin punctures.
In August, a Medical Assistant Workforce Program will be introduced. It will combine classroom instruction with laboratory work and clinical practice. It takes three semesters to complete. The main focus of the program will be on employability skills, job seeking skills, legal aspects of health care, safety in health care, communication and observation skills, medical terminology, and basic health care procedures. It will also include basic life support (American Heart Association), body structure and function, human growth and development, and nutrition.
