The MACCC women’s tennis champion resides in Ellisville again.
No. 11 Jones College wrapped up its third straight outright conference championship with a 9-0 victory over No. 23 East Central here Tuesday afternoon at the ECCC Tennis Complex. It was the 15th league title for the Bobcats.
Jones is now 19-2 overall and finishes league play at 10-0 – the fourth straight year the Bobcats finish conference play unbeaten. Jones has won 65 conference matches in a row and are 83-7 on individual courts this season.
The Bobcats close regular season play with a 1 p.m. Friday match at Meridian.
Jones will also host the women’s Region 23 Tournament April 13-15 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats set the tone quickly by sweeping the doubles’ points.
Guadalupe Tocci (Argentina) and Daniela Tovar (Venezuela) beat Maud Tsaura and Camilia Vanegas in No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Maggie Savell (Clinton Christian Academy) and Allie Johnson (Hernando) downed Ava Espey and Brenah Flint in No. 2 doubles, 8-2, and Michaela Anderson (Tupelo) and Reagan Salter (Lewisburg) defeated Ivey Bruntlett and Katelyn Wall in No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
Tocci beat Tsaura in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Tovar defeated Vanegas in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Savell beat Flint in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 1-0 (retired) and Johnson blanked Bruntlett in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Annalyn Housley (Nettleton) beat Espey in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Anderson shut out Anna Elmore in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
East Central, 8-7 overall and 5-5 in the conference, hosts Meridian Thursday.
