Jakob Wax (Prairieville, Louisiana) had a game here Friday afternoon that most hitters dream of in a week at the plate.
The sophomore homered in his first three at-bats – a two-run, grand slam and three-run homer – and later doubled to finish 4-for-5 with 10 RBIs as Jones College smacked Coastal Alabama-East, 18-9.
Gatlin Sanders (Madison Central) got the 18-run outburst started with a solo homer in the first inning. He'd also finish 4-for-5 on the day.
Wax homered in the second to make it 4-1 Jones.
The Warhawks hit three home runs of their own to eventually take a 6-5 lead after four.
Jones (12-4) tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth on a wild pitch and then Wax drilled a two-out grand slam to center to make it 10-6 Cats.
He'd hit his third of three home runs in the seventh to make it 13-8 and Sanders followed with an RBI-double, Beau Bryans (Madison Central) added a sac fly and Tristan Pearson (Biloxi) doubled to make it 16-8.
Hays Carley (Columbia Academy) and Wax had back-to-back RBI-doubles in the ninth.
Blake Summerlin (Northwest Rankin) started and went four innings, allowing five runs with five strikeouts. Kace Matthews (West Jones) got the win to improve to 1-0. He tossed four innings with two earned runs allowed and six strikeouts.
Javian Rives was 4-for-4 to lead the Warhawks (7-10).
