This past week, I was able to cover several events that are close to my heart. First was the annual recognition reception for our veterans hosted by Great Southern Bank in Quitman. Each year the employees of the bank go above and beyond to recognize the veterans here in our home county.
It is always so humbling to see our veterans stand as they are recognized. In attendance was a 90 year old who served during World War II, Mr. Clarence Smith of Beaverdam. There were veterans who were Purple Heart recipients and then veterans who served in most recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Great Southern Bank, the effort you put into planning this reception is noticed. You should be commended for what you do each November for our veterans. Thank you.
Another event was the prayer rally Monday night at 3S Cowboy Church in Enterprise. This rally was on the eve of our national presidential election. Pastor Tony Chancelor invited Marty Raybon, leader singer of the country group, Shenandoah to perform, along with local talent Scott McQuaig and Britt Gully.
Before the program, all branches of the military as well our county’s first responders were recognized and prayed for by Pastor Tony Chancelor.
This coming Friday will be the annual Veterans Day program on the courthouse lawn. Veterans Day is always remembered on the 11th month on the 11th day at the 11th hour. The public is invited and encouraged to come out Friday and help honor those in our county who have stood the test of time and served for us. As we get ready to go into our holiday season, we can begin our season of thankgiving by honoring and thanking those veterans who have served our country.
