Good Morning America's Lindsey Davis reports from set-up crime scene to trick viewers into thinking they were there. ABC's John Quinones pretends to be arrested in AZ to misrepresent a new law that allowed police to investigate illegals. ABC news ran a climate change special claiming that through undeniable research and "settled science, gas would be $9 a gallon, milk would be $13 a gallon, the polar ice was melting, and parts of the US would be underwater. ABC's Brian Ross implied that the Aurora CO shooter was a Tea Party member. ABC host George Stephanopoulos failed to disclose his donations to the Clinton Foundation before being found out and was forced to recuse himself from ABC's primary debate. This doesn't cover the misleading polls and false news stories during the recent election. This doesn't cover liars like Brian Williams who was a prominent anchor for years at ABC who continually told the lie that he was shot down by enemy fire in Iraq, only admitting that he made a "mistake".
Facebook announced last month that the social media company would be teaming up with ABC news, Politifact, and Snopes to identify and eradicate fake news across Facebook. If you are familiar with the internet then you are very aware of the last two websites which are very liberal leaning. Politifact spent most of the past election trying to whitewash the Clintons roles in trying to give America away claiming any attack on their actions as false or misleading. I really don't know where to begin with Snopes. How do you contradict the dragon in its own lair? Lair-Liar, did I get that right?
It has been pointed out by many already, who fact checks the fact checkers? I myself had decided years ago not to watch the networks news, read drivel pushed by the AP, research things myself, and do my part to point out what should be obvious. My love for FB might cause some trouble because I have already found out that you can report "fake news" yourself. I came across a story of misogyny that was repeatedly broadcasted about Mr. Trump that had been proven to be a lie. I clicked on the "report" button, reported the story as fake news, and received a little food pellet in the mail for my efforts. I didn't really receive a pellet but the whole thing was rewardable.
I'm kind of unsettled about how this new program and the governments push to eradicate "fake news" will have on our freedom of press. News sources like Breitbart and others who told an alternative view of things going on in America and beyond that weren't reported in the mainstream press might be our only link to reality. I have already written a column about the lies told during the Vietnam War and its effect on America. I kind of see it as my duty as a citizen to make sure things like this is fought. Neither ABC news, nor any other proven miss-truth teller has any business setting the example of what to believe. Until next week. ags.
