What is Democracy?
In this tumultuous election year I, AG Smith, believe it is imperative that we know exactly what we are looking for and voting toward, truly more than ever. After almost 8 years of liberal policies that have divided our country in ways that were long buried we have the chance to break from the grave that those policies have prepared. I'm no scholar but even a white hick from a flyover state can understand that politics and money are shaping this election like no other.
Democracy is a system for choosing a government through free elections. The active participation of the citizens in politics and civics. Protection of the rights of citizens. Rules of law, in which those laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens. Basically government based on the consent of the governed. But there is a distinction between it and a republic, which is included in our pledge of allegiance for a reason, where the minority only has the privileges granted to it by the majority. In a democracy that is. In a republic, sovereignty, is granted to each citizen which is why the wording of the pledge is important.
The citizens of a republic have a sacred trust, to guarantee the rights listed in our Bill of Rights and Constitution, to each other. When we chose representatives, we give them expressed powers to govern equally. A democracy doesn't really work that way though each have a lot of the same attributes. It's the very reason that great sums of money are spent to swing elections one way or the other. The key wording here in all of this is citizens. A great number of people across the world have decided to influence this and past elections by giving millions and possibly billions of dollars to groups here through political action committees, known as PAC's.
We have two distinctive groups running in this election. We have one who panders to every crusade, looking for votes, spending billions of dollars to guarantee that the flow of money to each and every pocketbook never stops. Counting on the very people that they have subjugated for years, with policies designed to destroy families and reward shiftlessness, for re-electing those that would continue this path of failure, and making everyone else follow. True Democrats. On the other hand we have a brash American businessman, who has never held political office, that decided he'd had enough, wanted to use his considerable fortune, and wanted things to return to where he remembered. A nation of laws and sovereign citizens who uphold them. A Republic.
All the things you will see and hear this election cycle are designed to try and demonize the candidates. All things can't be truth and we already know that one can't tell the truth at all. The biggest thing I understand that Mr Trump has done nothing to get us into the mess we are in. Not one thing. That can't be said about all the other people involved. Big government. Big money. Big business. For the citizens? Liberty and justice for all. Got a nice ring to it. Until next week. ags
