The signs of spring are beginning to show with flowers peeking through the ground, azalea bushes blooming and flowering trees coming alive.
Spring is such a beautiful time of the year where nature comes alive and we see signs of hope and renewal. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 1st, and lasts for 40 days. It is a time for Christians to remember the sacrifice of Jesus before his crucifixion. This year Easter falls on April 16th.
Daylight savings time also begins next weekend, March 12th, and will bring us longer daylight hours to get things done in the evenings. I always look forward to the time change because I enjoy being outside and the longer days gives me more time to plunder outdoors.
Spring is such a welcome relief after a short, mild winter and before the hot humid summer gets here. I love seeing the ground starting to get tilled for vegetable gardens. I love the smell of freshly cut grass and freshly turned dirt. Of course, if you ask me in August how much I love it, I will probably give you a different answer. Spring reminds us how much we love nature. The August heat and humidity reminds us how much we love air conditioning.
With the signs of spring blooming all around us in Clarke County, let us be reminded there are families in our county who are hurting. Loss of life and devastation has come into their lives and parents have lost their children unexpectedly during the past week. Different families, different circumstances and unrelated; however, parents are grieving. May we open our hearts to those who are hurting and pray for comfort and peace in the days ahead for them?
