Mrs. Daisy (York) McKenzie is originally from Morton, MS, but has resided in Clarke County for most of her life. She has taught Students with Academic Talents (SWAT) and students in English, French, Creative Writing, and African American Literature classes in the Quitman School District. She currently coordinates the QSD Connect Mentoring Program at Quitman Junior High School. For many years, she has owned and operated the School Connection Tutoring Service, an after-school and summer program. She is an active member of Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, the Democratic Executive Committee, the National Council of Negro Women, the NAACP, and the Jackson State Alumni Association. She was married to the late Abraham McKenzie, I, and the Lord blessed their union with five wonderful children and eight phenomenal grandchildren. Her hobbies include spending quality time with her family and friends, working with youth, reading, writing, studying, and researching. Over the years, she has received many recognitions and accolades, the latest of which was the Humanitarian Award from Multi-County Community Service.
