The 6th Annual Chickasaway Fun Run was again a huge success. Clarke County had another occasion to showcase its greatest physical asset—its river. We had participants from Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana, some of them new to our fun run. Sadly, a number south of us could not make it due to hurricane preparations.
I don’t know how many times I heard people say what a great asset our river is, and how beautiful the section from Quitman to DeSoto is. This experience would not have been a success without our sponsors and volunteers.
I would like to thank David Sharp and Emergency Management and their volunteers, Toshia Evans, Tyler Kirkman, and especially Angela Sisson, who spent her morning and afternoon driving a gator and picking up kayaks and occasionally an exhausted kayaker, and bringing them up the hill at the DeSoto boat ramp. Angela was greatly appreciated by all the kayakers. Thanks to Mickey Long, the Board of Supervisors and Quitman Fire Department for preparing the Quitman Boat Ramp.
Thanks to the Quitman Woman’s Club for preparing the food and Judy Roberts, Carole Loper and Ann Potuk helping serve; Ms. Charlotte Brown for the use of her van for transportation from the DeSoto boat ramp to the Quitman boat ramp; and Josh Miller from Yellow Dog Printing Company for his awesome design and printing of the t-shirts; and a special thanks to Ben Moore, Jim Crapse and Danny Holifield who stepped up and helped get things done.
