Friday, March 11, 2022, the Quitman High School Chorus participated in the MS Music Educators Association and MS High School Activities Association State Performance Assessment. QHS entered two choirs: Mixed Choir made up of male and female voices and Girls Choir. Two selections per group were adjudicated by three judges while QHS performed on the stage of the Brownstone Center at Pearl River Community College. The two selections the Mixed Choir performed were, "Gloria" from "Heiligmesse" by Franz Joseph Haydn, arranged by Patrick M. Liebergen and "Voice of My Song" by David Brunner. The two selections the Girls Choir performed were, "Laudamus Te" by Antonio Vivaldi, edited and arranged by Doreen Rao, and "When I Am Silent" by Joan C. Varner. Also, all choirs entered are required to "sight-read" a melodic and rhythmic exercise and be adjudicated by one judge.
The results of the day were that the QHS Chorus earned "Superior ratings" in Mixed Choir and Girls Choir and "Excellent rating" in sight-reading. These ratings are a testament to the hard work by QHS Choral students. The chorus adds two new superior plaques to the collection of many awards and plaques earned over the years by the QHS Chorus. The joy of vocal music is that one can continue this for the rest of his or her life, sharing that love and gift of music with others. The QHS Chorus and Director Robby Daniels are very grateful to QHS and QSD for the support of music and the arts in our schools.
