Quiet on the set! Lights! Cameras! Action!
Clarke County once again has the chance to be on the big screen with another movie written and directed by Clarke County’s own Joey Traywick: Championship Christmas.
“I love Clarke County and the area. It’s perfect to shoot these small town movies,” proclaimed Traywick. “This is my second movie to shoot here. I’ve been living in Clarke County for four years now and think it’s perfect for small town scenes and small town movies. The people here are just great, and we appreciate Clarke County.”
His new Christmas movie is unique because he decided to mix in some things that aren’t typically witnessed in a Christmas movie.
“This movie is called Championship Christmas. I’m combining some things I’ve never seen in a Christmas movie,” described Traywick. “This one is about a lady whose husband passed away and left her with eight kids to raise by herself. She met a man she went to high school with but didn’t know that well who turned out to be a professional wrestler. Its timeline goes from one Christmas to the next. People will just have to see the movie to see how it turns out.”
The movie has a large crew of actors, but he gave the lead role to a Clarke County native: Erica Green.
“Some of our actors are coming from New Orleans, Biloxi, and Jackson. Erica Green, who is originally from Quitman, is the star of the movie,” expressed Traywick. “She’s doing really well for herself and has been in a lot of movies lately. She was in Women of the Movement on network television not long ago. I’m really glad to have her in this movie. I wanted to get her in my movie before she gets so big that I can’t afford her anymore.”
The film crew he selected to use worked with him on another film last year, and great things have already begun happening with that film. They hope that this new movie will take off and do as well or better.
“Our film crew is Christian Media Films. Randy Skinner is the owner. We’re shooting with three cameras, a boom mic, and a big crew of cast members,” informed Traywick. “We have a movie now that I filmed with Christian Media Films that is about to be distributed worldwide through Walmart and hopefully Netflix and all. We just signed with SMG for that movie, called Vernon. We’re hoping this movie will go the same way.”
He does have specific plans for the new movies, and hopefully everyone will be able to see the movie on T.V. in the next few years.
“A guy I know has a relationship with Hallmark and Lifetime, so we are going to submit it to them,” stated Traywick. “When we submit it, it could be another year or so before they decide to use it if they even do use it. A lot of times they will either use it or buy the rights to it and re-film it with other actors. Anything that we can get, we will accept.”
The movie is set to be family friendly so that people of all ages can enjoy.
“These are family films, Christian movies, because without God we wouldn’t be able to do this,” explained Traywick. “He gave me the ideas and talent for this, so we’re filming them to be family friendly and Christian type movies.”
They aren’t sure how long production will take before the movie will be released, but they are working hard to put some Clarke County hometown joy on the big screen. Keep an eye out in the next year or two for Championship Christmas.
