Coming Home to Clarke County, MS, is getting ready for its second annual event. This year, the theme for the event will be “Celebrating and Inspiring Our Youth.”
The coordinators for the event would like to honor the youth of the community and provide them with something fun to participate in.
“We’re all about our youth because we want them to stay engaged with positive energy,” expressed parade coordinator Patricia Arrington. “We want them to see how God has blessed others so they’ll have someone to make as their role model. We’re having speakers come in, like a representative and a pastor. It’s all about our young people. We want to shower them with much love and keep this positive energy.”
There will be a parade on April 29, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. in Stonewall. Line-up for the parade will be at 11:00 a.m. at Jones College, 1200 Erwin Road in Stonewall. The parade will start at Jones College in Stonewall, go over to Barbra Avenue, continue to Ponderosa, turn on Caroline Avenue, and then turn back onto Erwin Road to return to the Stonewall Town Hall where the second portion of the event will take place.
So far, the parade is planning to include the following: truckers, motorcycles, fire trucks, classic cars, bicycle riders, dancers, horses, four wheelers, King and Queen, Princes and Princesses, bands, paramedics, and others. If there are any youth who would like to participate in the parade that doesn’t have formal wear, they can still wear church attire. No children will be turned away.
The event doesn’t end with the parade. In order to provide more for the youth in the community, there will be live music, vendors, and a car show at the Stonewall Town Hall, located at 801 Erwin Road.
“We’re having a talent show,” continued Patricia. “We’re having live music and vendors. The color guard is coming from out of Meridian. Hattiesburg High School Band is coming. The Heidelberg Praise Dance Team are coming. There will be local vendors and people from out of town coming. We have a special surprise for the young people.”
