Attention all High School Junior Girls…WHAT A CRAZY PAST FEW YEARS IT HAS BEEN! Join us and let’s make it better!
If you plan to attend college after high school, this is a great opportunity to win some scholarship money to help pay for that goal… and have fun, learn a lot about yourself, and make new friends in the process!
Our first “Interest Meeting” for this year’s Clarke County Distinguished Young Women Program will be held Sunday afternoon, September 26, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church in Quitman – there is plenty of room for us to spread out. Just go to the back side of the church and come through the double doors and follow the signs. It’s easy to find! Come join us, bring a parent or adult relative (if you can), and listen to the details that could help you make your decision! Also, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD to any Junior Girls doing virtual learning or home school!
So many young ladies hesitate, but we encourage you: don’t say no before you find out all the details! Ask some of the participants that you may know from past years what they thought (they tell US they loved it, so hopefully they’ll tell you that too)! We have a large committee that is willing to help you with any of the categories in which you need assistance - that’s what we’re here for and why we volunteer OUR time! We’d sure LOVE to see you September 26th!

If you are interested in participating in the Distinguished Young Women program, take a minute to review the requirements and qualifications necessary for participation. There are no fees to enter the program and we’ll help you keep your costs down as much as possible. Participants should be prepared to compete in all of the following categories:
Scholastics (25% of overall score) A panel of scholars, counselors, and others familiar with high school transcript evaluation review and score a participant's high school academic record and test scores.
Interview (25% of overall score) Judges evaluate a participant's personality, her ability to relate to others, her maturity, and her ability to express herself during a 10 minute personal interview.
Talent (20% of overall score) Judges evaluate a participant's performing arts talent during a 90 second presentation on-stage in front of an audience. Judges look for technical ability, appropriateness of selection, stage presence, and execution.
Fitness (15% of overall score) Judges evaluate a participant's overall physical stamina, coordination, agility, and flexibility during a choreographed group aerobic routine. Each participant has an individual spotlight during the routine.
Self-Expression (15% of overall score) Judges evaluate a participant's grace, poise, demeanor, carriage and posture, and speaking ability. The group segment incorporates movement about the stage. Each participant will speak on a topic provided.
In addition, participants must fulfill the following requirements:
Be a legal citizen of the United States; have never been married; and have never been pregnant.
Also keep in mind that Distinguished Young Women (DYW) is a highly respected organization based on strong morals. A representative of DYW should be able to be a role model to others and maintain high moral standards in her actions, dress, and social media. You should always be someone that you would want a younger girl to be able to admire!
