Quitman School District is celebrating its ninth year of an Annual Community Book Read, focusing on both reading and the community together. The theme they are using for the book read this time is “Embrace the Process.” They will focus on how every person has a leader inside and should simply decide if they will embrace that leadership and inspire others with the right attitude.
This year, the district has elected to read Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn for Teens and Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn for Kids by John C. Maxwell. The books contain important lessons that everyone can use in life and aligns with the state standards for social and emotional learning.
The schools don’t just read the books; they also have different activities that the children and community are able to enjoy that goes along with the books. There will also be community members, parents, and high school students going to different classrooms reading or sharing their stories.
“Each school has developed purposeful activities centered around the book and MS standards that will take place January 18-January 21,” informed Dr. Shevonda Truman, Curriculum Coordinator. “On Thursday and Friday, January 20-January 21, each school will host their very own competition between overall class winners! You don’t want to miss the finale!”
Don’t miss out on this amazing Community Book Read!
