A Community of Caring Christians has partnered with RADx-UP, MS Tobacco Free Coalition, and The Garage Food and Drinks to host an event for back-to-school free Covid testing and school supplies on Saturday, August 5, at The Garage Food and Drinks starting at 10:00 a.m.
“We have been funded by the National Institute of Health to provide free Covid testing in seven different counties up until February of 2024. We also are in collaboration with the MS Tobacco Coalition to help sponsor an event for back-to-school,” explained Community of Caring Christians Director Detra McCarty. “We’re providing free Covid testing for everyone that shows up. If they get tested for Covid, they also receive free school supplies according to their grade level. They will also receive a free meal from The Garage Food and Drinks. They will also get a free test kit to take home with them just in case at some point in the future that they feel sick and need to be tested.”
They have a goal to serve at least 75-100 children. They have built the school supplies by grade based on school supply lists they attained from Quitman School District and hope that it can assist families cost-wise as well as making sure there is a healthy start to the school year.
“Let them come out and get tested. That will save their household some money,” declared McCarty. “That’s what we really want to do: not just supply school supplies but save people money because we know that it’s hard times right now. A lot of people are struggling, and supplies aren’t cheap. We want to save them some money in every household that we possibly can.”
They will supply all the test kits, and everything in the event is free. For more information, call 601-274-2233.
