The 2021 Bulldogs made history Friday Night as they beat Quitman 42-19 for the first time since 1977.
For the first time since 1997, the Enterprise Bulldogs and Quitman Panthers kicked off under the Friday night lights for the 2021 Enterprise homecoming game. The Bulldogs have found no success on the gridiron against Quitman since 1977 with a 10-7 victory at L.J. Davis Field. That all changed as Enterprise routed the panthers on Friday night 42-19.
Enterprise came out swinging as they quickly scored on the first drive as sophomore Zee Sims scored on a 37 yard run, and kicker Trace Roy added the PAT. Quitman fought back hard, throwing a 73 yard touchdown pass to tie the game. The Dawgs didn’t slow down as they put one in for six at the end of the first quarter putting the score at 14-7.
Senior Blake Wilkins got things started in the second quarter with a huge catch to put the Bulldogs in scoring position. Roy refused to go down with what looked like the entire Quitman defense on his back. Roy’s run took Enterprise within the 10 yard line, which allowed Senior Gavyn Dear to punch in an eight yard run for a touchdown. Roy again with the PAT. Dawgs would score again in the second quarter with a 12 yard run by Sims and PAT by Roy. Quitman didn’t give up as they got an 18 yard touchdown run with 21 seconds to go in the second quarter, but the extra point was blocked. Enterprise went into the half up 28-13 against their long time rival.
The EHS Homecoming court was presented at halftime, and Macy Adams was crowned 2021 Homecoming Queen by high school principal Marlon Brannan.
After the halftime festivities, play resumed and junior Jake Shelby intercepted a Panther pass. This was the first turnover of the game for either team. Enterprise followed the interception with a touchdown by Dear. Will Harris finished off the third quarter with a six yard touchdown run and Roy with the PAT.
The Enterprise Bulldogs went into the fourth quarter up 42-13 but started on a rough note with a fumble at the beginning of the fourth. Quitman managed to pull together a huge drive that ended in a Pather touchdown and attempted a two point conversion but failed. Quitman failed the onside kick but made up for it by forcing an Enterprise fumble. Shelby sealed the deal for the Bulldogs with an interception in the endzone.
Zee Sims finished the night with 142 yards and three touchdowns rushing on 10 carries. Gavyn Dear added 67 yards and two touchdowns rushing. Parks Burt finished the night with 108 yards on 13 carries, while Trace Roy had 73 yards on 10 rushes. Senior Blake Wilkins had the 34 yard reception on quarterback Derryon Gray’s only pass. Defensively, Isaiah Baum had 10 tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss, while Roy finished with six tackles and Dear racked up seven tackles. Wilkins also had a sack for the Bulldogs.
The Enterprise Bulldogs did what most said was impossible and beat the Quitman Panthers. Enterprise (4-0) will travel to Morton this Friday. Kick-off at 7:00 p.m. Let’s take a trip and cheer loud for the Bulldogs!
