McCormick Seeks Re-Election
Clarke County-Place 1, please come out on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, for this important election. (PACHUTA, SOUINLOVIE, SOUTH QUITMAN, NORTH QUITMAN & HARMONY-DISTRICT 2)
I, Brenda McCormick, am asking for your vote for re-election as your School Board Trustee for the Quitman School District.
My husband, Ike, and I live in Pachuta, MS. We have four children. My children and I graduated from Quitman High School. One of our grandchildren is currently a senior at QHS.
I have served as your School Board Trustee for the QSD for the past five years. I represent Place 1 as your school board trustee, but I and the other board members serve the entire QSD.
The QSD currently has a “C” grade, but we are working hard to improve on this every year.
We have made improvement with our graduation rates, which are up, and our dropout rates, which are down. Graduation rates and dropout rates are calculated using a four-year adjusted method. This method determines the high school completion status for students four (4) years after entering 9th grade for the first time and graduates from that same school as a 12th grader. If a student moves from a district or leaves a district between grades 9-12, that affects the graduation rates and dropout rates for that district.
We are not satisfied with where we are as a district, but I promise you we are working diligently to improve in all areas.
There are good things going on in the district. Our early education program is one of the top in the state. Our district offers several dual enrollment classes and college courses, which allow our students to enter college with college credits completed. Our Big Blue Crew (Band) is back and growing every year. These are just a few positive things going on in the Quitman School District.
I believe in the QSD, and we will continue working to make it better. We have some of the best employees in our school district and they work hard every day to make things better for our children.
My experience as a former teacher in the QSD and serving as your school board member the past five years has equipped me with valuable experience to continue serving the QSD.
School Board Trustee for Place 1 is the only item on the ballot. I ask you to please go vote in this important election on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. I humbly ask for your vote to continue serving as your School Board Trustee for Place 1.
Thank you, Brenda McCormick

Cranford Announces Candidacy for QSD School Board
I’m Jonathan Cranford, and I’m running for Quitman School Board Trustee, Place 1 on November 2, 2021.
I am a husband, father, farmer and lifetime resident of Clarke County. I’m an active member of several local boards, including Clarke County Farm Bureau, Clarke County Livestock Association, 4-H, Soil and Water Conservation District, and I enjoy striving for “better.” I stand up for what I believe in, even if I am standing alone. With your vote and support, I will work to promote positive change in hopes of improving the education of our children and to bring fiscal responsibility/accountability that the taxpayers of Quitman School District deserve. If elected, I can assure you that I will ask the hard questions that often times get pushed aside or ignored, such as the following:
- Why is it such a common question for parents in Quitman School District to ask, “Where are you sending your kids to school?” Our district continues to lose students and valuable teachers to surrounding schools.
- Why does QSD rank in the bottom 50% of all 144 schools in Mississippi?
- Why is the high school graduation rate only 76%, whereas the national average in Mississippi was 87.7% for the 2019-2020 school year?
- Why are management positions such as Superintendent filled with people who are from out of town? Why not fill that position with someone who is local, qualified and vested in our community?
- How are we ever supposed to attract more business and industry when we don’t have a strong school system to offer incoming families?
I’m sick and tired of the negativity in this county, especially when it comes to our school district. It is time for “better”… it is time for improvement so that our children and grandchildren have a better future. Elect me and I assure you, you’ll see a fight for change; after all, “nothing changes if nothing changes.”
