Tony Chancelor has embraced his position as the new mayor for the Town of Enterprise. Although this is his first time as a mayor, Mayor Chancelor has had plenty of experience working with the town on the Board of Aldermen for several years. Along with his elected position, Tony has also served as the pastor of 3S Cowboy Church since he was called to plant the church eight years ago.
One thing is consistent for Tony with both his church and his elected position: he loves the Enterprise community and everyone in it.
He sees Enterprise as a real-life version of Mayberry, but that does not mean that he doesn’t want to do things that will help it be even more successful. In fact, he encourages communication and for each person who is able to make an impact on the town to strive to have a vision that will benefit it.
“Whether you’re an employee here or just called here to serve on the board, our personal vision should have something to do with the town,” expressed Mayor Chancelor at his first official meeting as mayor. “I just want to encourage the board to talk to each other and talk to me, because the only way we can enhance the town is to work together.”
While he doesn’t see where any extreme changes should have to be made for the town, Tony does believe that there are things that can be improved on to enhance the town even more.
“We have a great town and folks who live here, and it’s our responsibility to want to make it even better. We want to make it better without changing this small town atmosphere. We have a great town and great employees, and I don’t believe in fixing something that isn’t broken,” explained Tony. “We have a really good town, but there are a couple of things I’d like to address and go ahead and put in your minds because there is always room for improvement.”
He already intends to figure out what to do regarding law enforcement coverage and is speaking with the police department personally to make sure that that they are working together for the betterment of the town. In fact, one of his visions for the town could even assist officers in the future.
“I want to put cameras up in the town,” stated Tony. “I know that it can be done through Mississippi Power.”
His other big plan is a big possibility that he has been closely checking into. It will allow for easier access to the river and could help bring more people to the Enterprise community to spend money.
“I think our town needs another road. It’s something that I’ve thought about for probably ten years now. We need another road down at that Chickasawhay River Bridge leading down to the river, and we need a boat ramp. Part of my vision is that people will have a place to go in and have a place to go in in town and spend their money in our town,” explained Tony. “There’s a two-fold deal with it, though. That bridge provides a lot of shelter. I would like for us to have what I call a Chickasawhay Festival. We are at the head waters of the Chickasawhay River, so what better place to have a festival than under that bridge? There is plenty of parking. You have to have a vision to see it, and I’ve already put the wheels in motion. I’ve already talked to Joel Speed to get the county on board, and he’s already had the county engineer look at it. It’s a long term project, and we’re just seeing about the viability of it right now to see if we can do that to help enhance our town.”
Although he has only recently taken office, Mayor Tony Chancelor does have big plans to try and enhance his beloved community. There is no doubt that he will do everything in his power over the next four years to make sure that Enterprise is able to grow and flourish while maintaining that small community feel that everyone loves.
