Terry and Bonnie Roberson lost all of their belongings in a house fire that occurred Saturday morning.
When they discovered the fire, they did everything they could to try and control the flames until the fire department could arrive.
“Terry, his brother Jerry, and I were in the kitchen when we heard a noise and started smell smoke,” recalled Bonnie. “I opened the door to the bedroom, and the whole front wall was on fire. Terry and Jerry got the water hose and tried to get it out. They stayed in there while I called 911. They were in there longer than they needed to be. They tried so hard to get it out.”
East Quitman, Hopewell, Snell, and Quitman Volunteer Fire Departments rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, they were unable to save the structure. The house is considered a total loss, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The family was blessed to have no injuries as a result of the fire, but they have lost all of their belongings. This is a very hard loss for the family, though, since it was their family home and they lost their beloved pet to the flames.
“We are so sad. This was the Roberson’s old home place. My husband, his parents, and his brothers and sisters have lived there for 80 years,” explained Bonnie. “It is like a death in the family to us all! We also lost our sweet dog, Benji, who we rescued from the Clarke County Animal Clinic four years ago. I am an animal love, and pets are my family also.”
The family is very grateful for all the support that has been shown to them since the tragedy occurred.
“I want to thank the community for all the support they have shown!” expressed Bonnie. “I would also like to thank all the friends and family and the fire departments that worked so hard to get the fire out. Our precious God has always supplied our needs, and because of Him we are here today. The people in Clarke County and the surrounding counties are awesome. Just please keep us in your prayers.”
At this time, emergency relief funds are being taken to help provide for the needs of the family. There are multiple ways to give for anyone who would like to donate and give back to the precious family.
