U.S. Rep. Michael Guest met with longtime supporters in Clarke County during a visit to Skidmore’s Restaurant in Quitman on Tuesday, Oct. 13, where he discussed federal funding for local projects, constituent services and his work on the House Appropriations Committee.
Guest described the gathering as a favorite stop when traveling through East Mississippi.
“This is one of our favorite campaign stops,” he said. “Not only are we here during election years, but when I’m in East Mississippi, we try to get this group or most of this group together.”
The gathering included local supporters, the mayor and members of Guest’s Washington and district staff. He said the visit also gave him an opportunity to introduce staff members and thank those who have supported him and his family during his time in office.
“I had several members of my staff here, both D.C. and district staff,” Guest said. “I wanted to make sure that I introduced them to people that support us and to just thank everyone for giving me and my family the honor and the privilege to serve in Washington.”
Guest discussed his role on the House Appropriations Committee, which handles federal spending legislation, and how that position can help communities pursue funding for local projects.
He also discussed his staff’s work on health care and constituent services. Guest introduced Nick Hall, who works on health care issues in the Washington office, and Alan Ward, a new team member who will help serve constituents in East Mississippi. Ward has a background in law enforcement and military service, Guest said.
With the Nov. 3 election approaching, Guest encouraged attendees to get out and vote. He also discussed his goals of directing federal funding toward infrastructure and economic development, creating jobs and helping Mississippi graduates build their futures in the state.
He said those efforts are intended to help residents find good-paying jobs and build their lives in Mississippi.
Guest closed by thanking those in attendance for their continued support and expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to serve the region.
