Law enforcement responded to a call involving a shooting around the Shell Station in Quitman Saturday, January 28, evening.
“We received a call at about 5:30 Saturday, January 28, evening that some shootings had taken place up around the Shell Station,” explained investigator David Viverette. “We noticed that the building had been shot up at least four times, a home had been shot in three times, and another car had been shot in the rear tire.”
They have been working diligently to locate all suspects in the shooting and have already made some arrests.
“Since Saturday, we’ve arrested one. Today [Tuesday, January 31, 2023] we should have about two more arrested,” continued David. “There were about five individuals involved. I should have everybody in custody by Friday. I endeavor that all of them will pay for their crime. I’m turning every stone I can to get these people locked up and charged because lives matter, and it’s my job to make sure that lives are preserved. ”
While it is still under investigation, they do not suspect gang activity to be a motive at this time.
“I wouldn’t say it’s gang related, but I would say it’s beef related—I don’t like you and you don’t like me,” expressed David. “There was no gang stipulation with it. It was just about who’s the baddest and coolest. They began to fire shots recklessly, and lives were in danger.”
Fortunately, there were no injuries from the bullets; however, it did cause property damage and was a threat to everyone around.
“No injuries were noted or reported. It was just property damage to the store, to vehicles that were shooting at each other, and a home,” informed David. “A homeowner had her home shot into three times. She had just got up to get a sandwich and watch the ball game. That’s when the bullets went off, and the pillow that was behind her caught that bullet and held it. She had just stood seconds before that.”
The suspect they have already taken into custody has already gone before the judge, and his bond was revoked.
“The guy we have now, his bond was revoked,” stated David. “He was already out on felony bond, so he won’t get a bond and will be over there until Grand Jury meets.”
More information will be provided as the investigation continues.
