There will be an active shooter training drill at the Quitman High School on Wednesday, September 21, from 12 p.m.-4 p.m., according to Quitman School District Superintendent Dr. Minnie Dace.
“We’re partnering with Homeland Security and our local sheriff’s department to do active shooter training,” explained Dr. Dace. “Parents trust me to take care of their babies, and that’s huge to me. I want to make sure we’ve done our part to make sure we can do as much as we can in our control.”
The training is being hosted by the Clarke County Sheriff's Department, Quitman Police Department and Department of Homeland Security. This active incident exercise is being done at facilities all across the state to better serve, train and prepare all agencies involved for what to do during the event of an actual emergency.
Students will be released early from school on Wednesday so that the training can take place. The release times for the schools are as follows:
Quitman Junior High – 11:00 a.m.
Quitman Lower Elementary (car riders) – 10:45 a.m.
