Quitman School District held active shooter training with the Mississippi Department of Homeland Security and the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday, September 21.
The district takes the safety of its students and staff seriously and has been working hard to make sure that it has done everything possible to prepare for all situations.
“Everyone at Quitman School District is going through the active shooter drill. It is extremely important for our school district in the safety of our students and teachers,” proclaimed Quitman Superintendent Dr. Minnie Dace. “We’ve been practicing, and we’ve been planning for the past few weeks. We even attended Enterprise when they did it at the beginning of the school year because we know the importance. In our school district, with it having an open campus, it makes it even more important. We are constantly going through our active shooter plans. We have a crisis plan for almost every scenario, not just an active shooter. It’s very important that we practice because as the saying goes, you play like you practice.”
Through practicing, the staff was able to envision and devise a plan for different scenarios so that they will be better prepared to protect the students on a daily basis.
