UPDATE
The Clarke County Sheriff’s Department has arrested Tharein Breland, of Quitman, for an alleged child murder at Clarke County Villa Apartments, north of Quitman, according to Chief Deputy Barry White.
Breland has been charged with capital murder and was denied bond in Clarke County City Court just now by Judge Jim Potuk. He has been accused of murdering his one-year-old child. Breland slammed his fists down on the table when Judge Potuk announced that he was denied bond.
Around 5 a.m. Friday morning, August 6, 2021, the ambulance was called and the child was taken to Watkins Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The baby’s body was sent for autopsy.
When the initial information was returned Monday, investigators went to work on the case. The autopsy report showed multiple internal injuries to the child.
Breland was taken into custody in Meridian Wednesday by Meridian Police Department and transported back to Clarke County.
The Clarke County Investigation Division is working together on gathering the information. Breland will go before the February Grand Jury. If anyone has seen him interact harmful with this child, please contact The Clarke County Sheriff’s Department with information at 601-776-5252.
