The Clarke County Sheriff’s Department arrived to a tense scene at around 5:00 p.m. on November 17.
A person was barricaded in his home on Highway 511 and was in a short standoff with authorities when they arrived.
“The man was having a mental breakdown and thought people were trying to kill him and was firing at random,” explained Sheriff Todd Kemp. “When deputies arrived, he fired two shots towards the deputies.”
The Mississippi Highway Patrol SWAT team was called in to assist the deputies in apprehending the individual. Before the SWAT team could arrive, the individual emerged from the house and was taken into custody without incident.
There were no injuries reported from the situation.
