Derek Allan Looney, 41, of Meridian, Mississippi, passed away on December 13, 2024, at his residence.
He was born on August 27, 1983, in Meridian, MS.
He was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. Derek had many passions, including fishing and his knack for solving Rubix cubes. He worked for Lauderdale County where he earned admiration and respect from his coworkers for his strong character and work ethic. Derek will be remembered for his quick wit, sarcasm, and most of all his unwavering loyalty to his family and friends. Always ready to lend a helping hand, he touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity.
Derek is survived by his mother, Carolyn Mixon; sister, Katie (Kaleb) Hembree; and brothers, Lance (Cara) Looney, Kevin (Rebecca) Mixon, Wesley Mixon, and Raymond Mixon.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Kelly Alisa Looney, Mary Mixon Williamson, and Lora Ann Cline; brother, Gene Mixon, Jr.; and stepfather, Gene Cleo Mixon.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman, Mississippi.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at the Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with his brother Kevin Mixon officiating.
