The commemoration of the Burning of Quitman, Clarke County, Mississippi, will be honored at the annual Battle for Texas Hospital February 18-20 at Archusa Creek Water Park.
Followers and participants from all over, including Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi, will be dressed in period clothing and hosting several events. Some events planned already is the annual dinner and dancing at Chefski’s Restaurant on Friday night. The period band will be playing. Come join them for dining and dancing.
There will be a Battle Queen Pageant as well on Saturday, February 19, at 11 a.m. Miss Battle for the Texas Hospital will have several age divisions (Attire: Civil War Attire).
• Mrs. Division: married now or previously, or single 26 & up
• Miss Division: ladies 18-25 yrs., never married
• Teen Miss Division: young ladies 13-17 yrs.
• Jr. Miss Division: girls 8-12 yrs.
• Little Miss Division: girls 5-7 yrs.
Entry Fee: $65 - You may submit a $20 deposit to hold your spot. *Contestants in the Miss and Mrs. divisions are required to type a one-page summary of the Battle for the Texas Hospital or a person who was in the battle. Deadline: February 7, 2021 – Only 10 entries per division will be accepted.
Winners of each division will be representing the Battle of the Texas Hospital for one year starting the day of their crowning and are encouraged to return the following year to crown the successors. The “Miss” and “Mrs.” winners are required to return the following year to crown their successors.

The reenactment battles will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., and night firing of the cannon at 8 p.m. Saturday night.
Other events will include a period doctor doing field surgery, memorials at the Courthouse and Confederate Cemetery, music by the Sawmill Bluegrass Band, Women’s Tea, camp dance, period blacksmith and sutlers, food vendors, as well as the battle reenactments.
