For months now, kids from all over the county have been diligently working with and caring for a variety of animals with 4-H. They’ve had to take on the responsibility and challenge of making sure the animals have plenty of feed and water, washing the animals, and working with them to train them to go and stand where they need them. Their hard work pays off and is shown at its fullest when they take the animals to show. With the upcoming Clarke County 4-H Show and Sale on January 14, some members have given a brief glimpse of what animals they plan to show and why they enjoy doing it.
Walker Harris
Walker Harris is excited about his first year showing livestock. He has been working hard all year with a lamb and has already done very well with it.
“This is my first year showing. I just like to show them and just be around the animals,” expressed Walker. “I’ve placed in some shows.”
He has already learned a great deal and done his best with his animals, and he believes one thing is the most difficult: walking them.
“The hardest part is walking them. They’ll just stop, and it’s hard to make them move,” stated Walker. “I’ve gotten better so far by practicing.”
He loves everything about showing the animals, and plans to work hard to get even better and continue showing lambs in the future.
