For years, different residents in the county have benefitted from the excellent Preschool classes offered at First Methodist Church in Quitman.
FMC Preschool uses the Early Learning Guidelines for Three Year Olds and Early Learning Guidelines for Four Year Olds from the Mississippi State Department of Education to make sure that the kids who attend are fully prepared for kindergarten.
With their organized approached to learning based on play, centers, and positive interactions with the teachers, they work hard to abide by the philosophy they have always portrayed.
According to their handbook, the philosophy they abide by is as follows:
“The mission of the preschool is to provide a high quality early childhood program in a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children while responding to the needs of families. FMC Preschool emphasizes and encourages basic Christian values but does not offer formal religious training in any specific doctrine. We believe that FMC Preschool shall provide a happy environment in which the child may grow
• Physically – by helping develop good muscular development and coordination and fine motor skills and establishing desirable health and safety habits
• Socially – by helping each child develop the ability to work and play satisfactorily with others; developing attitudes of kindness, cooperation, courtesy, and helpfulness toward others; helping each child to learn to respect others and their rights, ideas, and property
• Mentally – by encouraging independent thinking and accepting responsibility of his/her actions; broadening their range of interests, and helping them grow in their ability to concentrate; developing language powers through creative expression and imaginative play
• Emotionally – by understanding the needs of each child and helping them grow in self-confidence, independence, and self-discipline.”
They’ve provided an excellent education for kids for decades, and now is the time to enroll students for the upcoming school year.
They have classes for both three and four year olds. Children must meet the following requirements to be eligible for preschool:
• Three years old on or before September 1 of the current school year
• Pre-kindergarten
• Potty trained
Parents who are interested in registering their child for preschool must complete a registration form, provide a copy of the child’s Certificate of Compliance for Immunization (Form 121) from the local health department or child’s physician, and pay a $35 registration fee when returning the registration form. There is a tuition that must be paid to attend.
They have classes from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Monday through Friday and follow the calendar for Quitman School District with the exception of the first day of school. They also follow Quitman School District’s bad weather schedule.
Anyone interested in enrolling their child in the preschool can pick up a registration form from First Methodist Church in Quitman.
