The blessing of freedom that we enjoy in the United States has long been associated with work – freedom to do the work that we are interested in as well as where and when we do it. While the work place does have standards to follow, we still have much freedom surrounding work. This is contrary to countries where there is totalitarian and even socialist mindsets about work.
Mike Couch hosts a program each Monday on Super Talk 103.3 FM that promotes Forging Alliances between communities and Veterans. He recently wrote a poem about our national flag that shares so well the connection between our work and our Liberty.

Where did all the flags go?
Does anybody know?
On Flag Day they were missing.
And now that missing number grows.
On Memorial Day we honor the brave,
The heroes who gave all they had to give,
Yet down our streets, so empty they lie –
Where are the flags on the Fourth of July?
Does anybody notice?
Does anybody care?
Or have we grown so busy
We no longer place them there?
A flag is more than fabric,
More than colors blowing free.
It is a symbol of our nation’s soul,
And the price of liberty,
So, I’ll keep my flag flying.
High for all to see.
In honor of those who gave their lives,
So Americans could remain free.
Where did all the flags go?
I pray they’re not gone for good.
For when Old Glory disappears from our streets
We risk forgetting what she has always stood for.
I fear Liberty will not be far behind.

It is a blessing to see our flag fly at so many places of work. It is also a sad statement when we see this missing from places like a local elementary school. Displaying our flag is making a statement that we are invested in the soul of our nation.
